How many does she carry?
 

The boat is licenced for 12 passengers. However, if you book the boat for yourselves ( as a club booking ) then we do recommend no more than 8 as this makes the boat lighter and you benefit from more room, speed and actual fishing time.
 

Individuals.
 

Yes we do take individuals. A lot of our trips are made up from individuals booking 1, 2, 3 places etc. You are more than welcome. If there are only 3 people booked on the boat we will sail. You DON'T have to book the whole boat !!!!
 

Cost.

 

The cost of an individual place on the boat this year is £48.00. This is for a 10 hour trip sailing at 7.00 am and returning about 5.00 pm.

The price for the whole boat ( club booking ) if you take it for 8 anglers (more space)  is £480.00. This is also for a 10 hour trip.

If you book the whole boat ( club booking ) for 10 anglers  the price is £520.00. This is also for a 10 hour trip.

If you book the whole boat for the maximum 12 anglers the price is £600.00. This is also for a 10 hour trip.

The 8 boat option is definately the better as you benefit with more speed, more room and more fishing time.

We don't put anybody else on board if you book the whole boat whether you are booking her for 2 people or 8 people.

It must be understood that the boat must be paid for in full if you have her booked for yourselves.
 

Trip Duration.
 

All trips are 10 hours unless otherwise specified. Longer trips are available in the summer months. 12, 14, 16 and 18 hour trips are available. 
 

Extended Trips.
 

Should you wish to extend the trip whilst out at sea I will do this if I haven't got any prior arrangements. The extra cost is charged by the hour. We do longer trips during the summer months (May- Sept) of 12 and 14 hours. These can be arranged when you phone or email for the booking.

Deposits.

Yes we do require a deposit. If you book an individual place on the boat the deposit is £20.00.

If you book more than one trip as an individual  then a full ("Trip Up Front") is required. £48.00

If you book the whole boat ( club booking ) then the deposit is £200.00 for the 8 boat and £250.00 for the 10 and 12 boat.

If you book more than one trip as a club  then a ( FULL TRIP UP FRONT ) is required.

The balance is paid on the day in cash.

It must be understood that ALL PLACES booked must be paid for as we will be turning people away on the strength of your booking.

Tackle and Bait.
 

Most of our regular anglers have their own tackle. However, if you are a novice at the game or haven't been before then we can get you started with hire rods and reels. Please let us know in advance how many rods you will require. We will let you know which bait has worked the best recently and you can get it yourselves from the shop on the morning of the trip. If you fish regular we do ask that you don't bring  massive tackle boxes that you need a crane to hoist aboard!

Shy-Torque lll  is a fast boat. More Weight = Less Speed!!!!

Catch.
 

You do keep all that you catch aboard the boat. We will try our best to give you a good days sport. If you don't like gutting and cleaning  fish then just ask and I'll do it. We must hasten to add that it is illegal to sell any fish you have caught to try and cover the cost of the trip. If you want fish filleting professionally then I will do it (at cost !!) Let me know well before we are due to set off for home if you want your fish filleting. Filleting should not be attempted on a moving boat. There are no ambulances out there should you slip and cut yourself !!!
 

Clothing.
 

The North Sea can be a cold place even in the summer time. A good set of waterproofs is very important. Wooly hats are a must. Remember, if you've brought it you can take it off but if you haven't...........!!  She has got a totally sealed deck so wellies aren't a necessity but are obviously better than trainers when working near water.
 

Accommodation.

There is plenty of accommodation in the town ranging from self catering cottages to B&Bs and hotels. A popular guest house with anglers is the "Florence Guest House" 01947 605083.  and is within 3 minutes walking distance of the boat. Check the links page opposite for self catering cottages.
 

Car Parking.

You can park your car within 50 ft of the boats mooring. The cost of the parking for the day is approx £5.00. You may find that in the height of the summer the parking spaces by the boat can be a bit limited due to holiday makers staying for several days. This isn't usually a problem as there is another car park across the river. Drop your gear off on the boat so you don't have miles to carry it, take the car round and we'll pick you up over the other side. We'll drop the driver(s) off on that side on return. Please give yourselves spare time before we sail, for breakfast, tackle shop etc, as we sometimes need to get the bridge on the bigger tides. The swing bridge in Whitby opens on the hour and every half hour, 2 hours before and 2 hours after high water. Ask about tide times the night before if you wish to see if your trip will need a morning bridge.
 

Corporate Days?
 

Should you want to book the boat for a corporate day for something other than angling we would be only too pleased to help. Give me a ring or email me with your ideas and we can sort something out.
 

Tackle Shop and Cafe.
 

These can be found on the West side of town. The tackle shop is called "Whitby Angling Supplies"(Tel 01947 603855) and is by far the best and cheapest in town for all your angling needs. "Arbuts Cafe" (01947 603277)  is situated on the left, 20 paces before the tackle shop.
 

Festival Competitions.
 

Whitby usually hosts 3 angling competitions per year. The first being the spring comp (usually 1st-14th April ) The second being the Summer comp (usuallyl  1st - 14th July ) and the third is the Autumn comp which is now held in Sept, again the first two weeks. The dates for all the competitions can change as the W.C.S.A tries to arrange them around the better tides for better results!  Top prize for the comps is paid out in cash, July and September being the best prizes with top prizes in excess of  £1000.00 plus various daily cash prizes up to £50.00 for the heaviest fish of the day. The competitions are good fun for all involved including the skippers who enjoy the challenge for the prestige!  We carry a maximum of 10 anglers during the competitions which does up the price a little but everyone benefits from the extra speed and space so book your places early if you want a piece of the action ! The Shy-Torque won both the Summer 2007 and Autumn 2007 angling festivals and also the (2008) grand Summer festival in July winning John Wilcock from Bradford over £6000,00 in prize money!!!!!!!!!

We have won more Whitby angling competitions than any other boat in the harbour and your best chances are definately with us, not just in the comps but  ANYTIME  !!!!!!!!!
